Decisions

People make decisions to quickly or by someone else’s leading.  Remember
Adam, but every decision we make should be biblical based (II Cor 10:5).

When making decisions we should

(1)        Seek God - read His Word on the subject. (II Chron 16:12, Jer 29:13, Prov
3:13, 8:1-11, 9:10, Matt 6:33, 7:7, Luke 11:9-10)

(2)        Believe – Our belief doesn’t change the law.  Some people believed that
they could fly and jumped off high places, the results has no effect on the one’s
belief.  Some people don’t believe in hell, but if they haven’t received Jesus they
will go there even if they don’t believe in it.  (Isa 53:1, Mark 1:15, 9:23, 16:16, John
3:15-16, 18, 11:40-42, 12:38, Acts 16:34, 24:14, Rom 3:22)

(3) Obey His Word – Obedience is a positive, active response to what a person
hears.  God summons people to active obedience to His revelation.  Obedience
was the basis for knowing God’s blessing and favor (Ex 19:5, 24:1-8).  Samuel
emphasized that God’s pleasure was not in sacrifice but in obedience. (I Sam 15:
22) (Ex 15:26, Duet 28, Prov 29:18, Hosea 4:6)

(4) Sin – (we must get the sin out of our lives) lawlessness (I John  3:4) or
transgression of God’s will, either by omitting to do what God’s law requires,
remember  Jonah;  or by doing what it forbids.  There are 2 which really stop one’s
fellowship with God.
(a)        bitterness – Acts 8:23 describes a spiritual poisoning – a heart of great
wickedness. (Eph 4:31) Heb 12:14-15 in Simon the sorcerer a “root of bitterness”
is a wicked person or a sin that leads to denial of the faith.
(b)        Unforgiveness -  the act of not excusing or pardoning others in spite of
their slights, shortcomings, and errors.  As a theological term, forgiveness refers to
God’s pardon of the sins of human beings, so to have unforgiveness we are going
against God will.  God’s forgiveness of us demands that we forgive others,
because grace brings responsibility and obligation (Luke 6:37).  A forgiving spirit
shows that one is a true follower of Christ (Mark 11:25-26, Mark 6:14-15, 18:35).

(5) Speak the Word basing your decisions on the Word. – Abide in Christ. (John
15:4-11)
