The Conditions of Prophecy
Prophecy is conditional, God says many times in His word “if you do this”. We
see what God says in Isaiah 1:18-20; “come now, and let us reason together
says the Lord, though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow,
though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you be willing and
obedient, you shall eat the good of the land. But if you refuse and rebel, you
shall be devoured with the sword, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it”.
When we are making choices, we are not to look to the natural realm, the things
we can see with our natural eyes, remember Lot in Genesis 13:7-11 “and there
was a strife between the herd men of Abram’s cattle and the herd men of Lot’s
cattle; and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. And Abram
said to Lot, let there be no strife, I pray you, between me and you, and between
my herd men and your herd men, for we be brethren. Is not the whole land
before you? Separate yourself, I pray you, from me; if you will take the left hand,
then I will go to the right; or if you depart to the right hand, then I will go to the
left. And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was
watered every where, before the Lord Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah,
even as the garden of the Lord Yahweh, like the land of Egypt, as you come to
Zoar. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east, and
they separated themselves the one from the other”. Lot looked with his natural
eyes, but the men of Sodom were wicked and they corrupted Lot and his family.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 “but seek you first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you”. Jesus was talking
about the things needed to live by, verses 25-32 explains “therefore I say to
you, take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, nor
yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the
body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they
reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heaven Father feeds them, are you not
much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to his
statute? And why take you thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toll not, neither do they spin. And yet I say to you, that even
Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so
clothe the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven,
shall He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore take no
thought saying, what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or, wherewithal shall
we be clothed? For after all these things do the Gentiles seek, for your heavenly
Father knows that you have need of all these things”.
As we read His word (Proverbs 3:13) says “happy is the man that finds wisdom,
and the man that gets understanding”, and Proverbs 8:6-11 says “hear, for I will
speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For
my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the
words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing forward or perverse in
them. They are all plain to him that understanding, and right to them that find
knowledge. Receive my instruction and not silver, and knowledge rather than
choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things that may be
desired are not to be compared to it”; Proverbs 9:9-10 says “give instruction to a
wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in
learning. The fear (reverence) of the Lord Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the holy is understanding”.
Every choice we make must be biblically based (II Corinthians 10:5) which says
“casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the
knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of
Christ”. Remember Deuteronomy 30:19 says “I call heaven and earth to record
this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and
cursing therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live”. It is our
choice that will direct our life.
Moses made a choice (Hebrews 11:24-26) “by faith Moses when he was come to
years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. Choosing rather to
suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a
season. Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in
Egypt, for he had respect to the recompence of the reward”. And God used him
in a mighty way. God instructed the Israelites through Moses.
The Bible is full of instructions from God showing us the benefits and the
dangers of our choosing (Deuteronomy 28:1-2,15) “and it shall come to pass, if
you shall hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord Yahweh your God, to
observe and to do all His commandments which I command you this day, that the
Lord Yahweh your God will set you on high above all nations of the earth. And
all these blessings shall come on you, and overtake you, if you shall hearken to
the voice of the Lord Yahweh your God”; and Isaiah 65:12 says “therefore will I
number you to the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter; because
when I called, you did not answer, when I spoke, you did not hear; but did evil
before My eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not”.
Obedience is a positive, active response to what a person hears. Samuel
emphasized that God’s pleasure was not in sacrifice, but in obedience (I Samuel
15:22).
Abraham the father of our faith, when he was called obeyed (Genesis 12:1-7)
“now the Lord Yahweh had said to Abram, get you out of your country, and from
your kindred, and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. And I
will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great;
and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him
that curses you, and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram
departed, as the Lord Yahweh had spoken to him, and Lot went with him, and
Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. And
Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that
they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran, and they went
forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. And
Abram passed through the land to the place of Sichem, to the plain of Moreh,
and the Canaanite was then in the land. And the Lord Yahweh appeared to
Abram, and said, to your seed will I give this land, and there built he an altar to
the Lord Yahweh, who appeared to him”.
God told Abram something to do, and promised to make his name great and to
bless him; and Abram believed God and went out. God continues to do this, He
makes bold, unbelievable promises to His people, and as they believe and act
out on them He brings them to completion.
As we renew our mind to the word of God (Romans 12:1-2) Paul writes “I
beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable
service. And be not conformed to this world, but be you transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable
and perfect will of God”. We have to serve God His way (Hebrews 12:28) says
“wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace,
whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear”.
Psalms 119 is so awesome, it shows us how to make good choices (Psalms 119:
9-16) “wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto
according to Your word. With my whole heart have I sought You, O let me not
wander from Your commandments. Your word have I hid in my heart that I might
not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord Yahweh, teach me Your statutes.
With my lips have I declared all the judgments of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in
the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate in Your
precepts, and have respect to Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I
will not forget Your word”.
Psalms 107:2 says “let the redeemed of the Lord Yahweh say so, whom He has
redeemed from the hand of the enemy”. We are redeemed and we are
supposed to say so. Say what God says about any circumstance and see it
change. Our confession, saying the same things as God says is very important.
Proverbs 18:20-21 says “a man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his
mouth, and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in
the power o the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”. The
power of your tongue, comes when you speak His words, you are speaking life
unto yourself and others. Jesus said that His words are seed, so as we plant His
word in our lives, we are bringing forth good things.
