Choices
Hebrew: select, choice, to create, take hold, receive, under-take, acquire
Greek: select, to take for oneself, prefer
God didn’t make us as robots, but we are made in the image of God Himself. Free to
make our own choices. God gave us commandments to keep us in His will, however we
must choose.
God commanded Adam in Gen 2:16-17. Eve was deceived, but Adam disobeyed.
Adam made a choice that corrupted all mankind, because all men came through Adam.
When we are making choices, we are not to look to the natural realm. Remember Lot in
Gen 13:9-11. We should seek God first, read His Word on the subject (Prov 3:13, 8:1-
11, 9:10). Every choice we make should be biblical based (II Cor 10:5). The Bible says
in James 1:5-7, God gives us wisdom when we ask.
Moses made a choice (Heb. 11:24-26) and God used him in a mighty way.
God instructed the Israelites through Moses (Duet 30:10-20), however they disobeyed.
Joshua reaffirms to the Israelites God’s instruction, and stated what his choice was
(Josh 24:14-25).
The Bible is full of instructions from God showing us the benefits and the dangers of
our choosing. (Duet 28:1-2, 15; Isa 1:19-20, 65:12). Obedience is a positive, active
response to what a person hears. Samuel emphasized that God’s pleasure was not in
sacrifice but in obedience. (I Sam 15:22).
Martha was so busy serving that she didn’t take time to listen (Luke 10:38-42).
Psalms 119 is an awesome psalm. It shows us how to make good choices (Ps 119:9-
16; 30-31; 169-175).
Proverb 18:20-21, shows we are to choose words of God rather than words of satan,
because we will give an account of every word (Matt 12:37).
The greatest choose we have is to choice Jesus as our Lord and Savior. A lot of
people have chosen Jesus as their Savior, but He must be our Lord. Think of this,
Jesus knows all things, remember He knew the thoughts of all, even those who were
trying to trick Him before they spoke.
We are told to “walk in the Spirit and not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Gal 5:16, 18-26).
Remember God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.
(Gal 6:7).
God has been blamed for a lot that He didn’t do. Man’s life has been the
consequences of man’s choices. Ex: a man gets drunk, then chooses to drive and he
kills someone. That was not God’s will, nor the will of the one killed. The drunk man’s
choice, affected the life of an innocent victim. One is advised not to smoke, but
continues to smoke, he dies at 30, leaving a wife and children, his death is not God’s
will, but his choice. We see our choices can affect others, so we must choice wisely.
Our choice to live holy obedient lives, is not that God stands over us with a big stick,
God knows all things, He knows every sin we will ever commit and has forgiven us, but
when we sin, we give place in our lives for satan, and he uses our disobedience to
bring trouble into our lives. (Eph 4:26-32). Remember (Col 3:17) “and whatsoever we
do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the
Father by Him.
