Being Led by the Holy Spirit
You are either led by the Holy Spirit or else you are being led by the devil,
there is no middle ground (Romans 6:16) says “know you not, that to whom
you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you
obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness”? The
accuser of the brethren, (the devil) will try to tempt you to do something
you use to do before coming to Christ, remember before you came to
Jesus, you were a child of the devil and he knows what you like to do. The
accuser of the brethren will accuse the believer of their sin, trying to get
their heart to condemn them (I John 3:19-22) says “and hereby we know
that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our
heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward
God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His
commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight”. You
see when your heart condemn you, you cannot receive of God.
The devil cannot tempt you to do anything that you don’t think about, he
will give you a thought and see what you do with it. The Bible tells you to
cast down vain imaginations (II Corinthians 10:4-5) “for the weapons of our
warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of
strong holds. Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts
itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every
thought to the obedience of Christ”.
You cast down thoughts with words, just like Jesus in the wilderness said “it
is written” in answering the devil’s temptations (Luke 4:1-13) “and Jesus
being full of the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit
into the wilderness. Being forty days tempted of the devil, and in those
days He did eat nothing; and when they were ended, He afterward
hungered. And the devil said to Him, if You be the Son of God, command
this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, it is
written; that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
and the devil, taking Him up into an high mountain, showed to Him all the
kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, all
this power will I give You, and the glory of them, for that is delivered to me;
and to whomsoever I will I give it. If You therefore will worship me, all shall
be Yours. And Jesus answered and said to him, get you behind Me, satan;
for it is written, you shall worship the Lord Yahweh your God, and Him only
shal you serve. And he brought Him to Jerusalem, and set Him on a
pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, if You be the Son of God, cast
Yourself down from here. For it is written, He shall give His angels charge
over You, to keep You. And in their hands they shall bear You up, less at
any time You dash Your foot against a stone. And Jesus answering said to
him, it is said, you shall not tempt the Lord Yahweh your God. And when
the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a
season”. Find the word of God that comes against the vain thoughts, just
like Jesus did.
Jesus said “take no thought saying”(Matthew 6:31), it’s when you say it
you are agreeing with it to be yours. Revelation 12:11 says “and they (that’
s us) overcame him (that is the devil), by the blood of the Lamb, and by the
word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives to the death”. We
testify by speaking the word of God that goes against the words of the
devil.
The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:6-9 “be careful for nothing, but in every
thing by prayer and supplications with thanksgiving let your request be
made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all
understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are
honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there
be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those
things which you have both learned, and received, and heard and seen in
me, do; and the God of peace shall be with you”. Remember that
Proverbs 23:7 says “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”.
Jesus told the Jews that believed on Him “If you continue in My word, then
are you Me disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth
shall make you free” (John 8:31-32). In Romans chapter 8:5-8 “For they
that are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are
after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death,
but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is
enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed
can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God”. Verse 13-
15 “For if you live after the flesh, you shall die, but if you through the Spirit
do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live. For as many as are led by
the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God”. We are told many times in
the Bible to examine ourselves or to judge ourselves (Galatians 5:16-26)
says “this I say then, walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the
flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the spirit against the flesh;
and these are contrary the one to the other, so that you cannot do the
things that you would. But if you be led of the Spirit you are not under the
law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery,
fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness. Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred,
variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies. Envyings, murders,
drunkenness, revellings, and such like of the which I tell you before, as I
have also told you in time pass, that they which do such things shall not
inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith. Meekness, temperance;
against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the
flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in
the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another,
envying one another”.
I like the way it is said in Psalms 119:9-11 “Wherewithal shall a young man
cleanse his way? By taking heed, thereto according to Your word. With
my whole heart have I sought You: O let me not wander from Your
commandments. Your word have I hid in my heat, that I might not sin
against You”.
The key to walking in the Spirit of God is living according to His word.
