Appointed Times

God appointed His feasts; these are times of remembrance.  The feasts and
festivals were holy convocations, the regular assemblies of the people.  The
feasts and festivals of the nation were scheduled at specific times in the annual
calendar.

These feasts and festivals were set up by the Lord Yahweh, and He told Moses
to tell the children of Israel (Leviticus 23:2,4) “speak to the children of Israel and
say to them, concerning the feasts of the Lord Yahweh, which you shall proclaim
to be holy convocations, even these are My feasts.  These are the feasts of the
Lord Yahweh, even holy convocations, which you shall proclaim in their seasons”.

Exodus 23:14-17 lists the three feasts where they were required to come before
the Lord Yahweh in the year; it says “three times you shall keep a feast to Me in
the year.  You shall keep the feast of unleavened bread; you shall eat
unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded you, in the time appointed of the
month Abib; for in it you came out from Egypt and none shall appear before Me
empty.  And the feast of harvest, the first fruits of your labors, which you have
sown in the field, and the feast of ingathering which is in the end of the year,
when you have gathered in your labors out of the field.  Three times in the year
all your males shall appear before the Lord God”.

The feast of Passover and unleavened bread followed after.  The Passover was
when Israel was spared from the last plague of Egypt, where all the first born of
Egypt were killed by the death angel (Exodus 12:11-14), it says “thus shall you
eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your
hand; and you shall eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover.  For I wil pass
through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the first born in the land of
Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute
judgment; I am the Lord Yahweh.  And the blood shall be to you for a token upon
the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and
the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
And this day shall be to you, for a memorial; and you shall keep it a feast to the
Lord Yahweh throughout your generations; you shall keep it a feast by an
ordinance forever”.

And because of this many people believe that it is only a Jewish holy day, but
Jesus died on Passover; He is our Passover lamb; because we who receive Him
are covered by His blood and are saved from the wrath to come.  John the
Baptist proclaimed Jesus as the “Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the
world” (John 1:29).

As we remember the feast of Passover, we are remembering His death.  The
Hebrews celebrate the anniversary of a person’s death.  At the last supper Jesus
broke bread and told them to remember His death.  Paul in I Corinthians 11:23-
26 says “for I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered to you, that he
Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread.   And when He
had given thanks, He broke it, and said, take, eat; this is My body which is broken
for you; this do in remembrance of Me.  After the same manner also He took the
cup, when He had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in My blood; this
do you, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.  For as often as you eat
this bread, and drink this cup, you do proclaim the Lord’s death till He come”.

Paul also tells us in I Corinthians 5:7-8 “purge out therefore the old leaven (sinful
person) that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened.  For even Christ
our Passover is sacrificed for us.  Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old
leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the
unleavened bread of sincerity and truth”.

By swaying away from our roots, the church have tried for years to get three
days and three nights from what is called “Good Friday” to Sunday, our
Resurrection day.  After all Jesus did say in Matthew 12:40 “for as Jonah was
three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of Man be three
days and three nights in the heart of the earth”.

The feast of Pentecost – this was the day that the law was given to Moses from
Mount Sinai (Exodus 20:1-17), God spoke to them the Ten commandments.  This
feast was observed early in the third month on the 50th day after the offering of
the barley sheaf at the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Again it seems to have a
remembrance only for Israel, but it was also the day that the Holy Spirit was given
(Acts 2:1-4) which says “and when day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all
with one accord in one place.  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as
of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  And
there appeared to them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon, each of
them.  And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance”.

The church was born (Acts 2:38-41) says “then Peter said to them, repent, and
be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  For the promise is to you,
and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our
God shall call.  And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, save
yourselves from this perverse generation.  Then they that gladly received his
word were baptized; and the same day there were added to them about three
thousand souls”.

The Feast of Tabernacle – refers to the wilderness travels (Leviticus 23:33-36),
which says “and the Lord Yahweh spoke to Moses saying.  Speak to the children
of Israel, saying, the fifteenth day of this seventh month, shall be the feast of
tabernacles for seven days to the Lord Yahweh.  On the first day shall be an holy
convocation; you shall do no servile work therein.  Seven days you shall offer an
offering made by fire to the Lord Yahweh on the eighth day shall be an holy
convocation to you, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to the Lord
Yahweh; it is a solemn assembly, and you shall do no servile work therein”.  This
feast also reminds us that Jesus came to tabernacle with us (John 1:14) says
“and the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”.

There are seven feast actually listed in Leviticus chapter 23, Passover,
Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Pentecost, Atonement, Trumpets, Tabernacles;
and they are all called feast of the Lord Yahweh.  The word of God has many
blessings for those who follow them.

God hates our feasts (Amos 5:21-22) says “I hate, I despise your feast days, and
I will not delight in your solemn assemblies.  Though you offer Me burned
offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them, neither will I regard the
peace offerings of your fat beasts”.

Jesus criticized the Pharisees for slavishly following their traditions and making
them more authoritative than the Scripture.  The Pharisees asked Jesus “why do
Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders?  For they wash not their
hands when they eat bread.  But He answered and said to them, why do you also
transgress the commandments of God by your traditions? (Matthew 15:2-3).

Jesus was born a Jew, and He observed the feast of the Lord, you can see many
times in the Bible when He was in the temple ministering on the feast day (Luke 2:
41-46) which says “now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of
the Passover.  And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem
after the custom of the feast.  And when they had fulfilled the days, as they
returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and His mother
knew not of it.  But they supposing they supposing Him to have been in the
company, went a day’s and they sought Him among their relatives and
acquaintance.  And when they found Him not, they turned back again to
Jerusalem, seeking Him.  and it came to pass, that after three days they found
Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them, and
asking them questions.  And al that heard Him were astonished at His
understanding and answers.

John 7:37-38 says “in the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and
cried, saying, if any man thirst, let him come to Me, and drink.  He that believes
on Me as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living waters.”
He spoke concerning the Holy Spirit.

I take the feast of the Lord Yahweh to something that honors Him, because He
set them up.  We being followers of Jesus, should do what He did.
