Abomination – Anything that offends the spiritual, religious, or moral sense of a person
and causes extreme disgust, hatred, or loathing.  The Hebrew word translated
“abomination” have the meaning of “impure.” “filthy,” and “unclean” that which is foul-
smelling and objectionable to a holy God.

Among the objects described as an “abomination” were the (1)carved images of pagan
gods (Deut 7:25-26). Jesus said “we can not serve two masters. (2) The sacrifice to God
of inferior, blemished animals (Deut 17:1). (3) The practice of idolatry; the worship of
something created as opposed to the worship of the Creator.(Deut 17:2-5, Acts 17:16).
The new testament period the term “idolatry” began to be used as an intellectual
concept.  Idolatry became not bowing down before a statue but the replacement of God
in the mind of the worshiper, (Col. 3:5, Eph 5:5) points in this direction . “Put to death….
covetousness which is idolatry.” While we may not make or bow down to a statue, we
must be constantly on guard that we let nothing come between us and God.  As soon as
anything does, that thing is an idol.  Other abominations were (4) sexual transgressions;
fornication, adultery, incest, homosexuality (Gen 19:4-5, 12-13; Lev 20:13;, Rom 1:26-
27; I Cor 6-9-10), (5) liars, (6) unclean things, and (7) the practice of magic, witchcraft,
and “spiritism” (Deut 18:9-12).  (8) Pride – Placing oneself above the knowledge of God.
God resists the proud. Resists means fights against.  Remember satan’s error, he said I
will 5 times in (Isa 14::12-14)

God is the same yesterday, today and forever, so if He said something was an
abomination it still is. (Mark 13:31).  Ps 89:34 says “My covenant will I not break nor alter
the thing that is gone out of My lips.” Many have been deceived by satan, satan said it is
not an abomination to be homosexual and many ministers are being ordained and
preaching that it’s alright, but the Bible says in (Lev 18:22-30).  Many have color coded
lies, saying a little white lie is o.k., but the Bible says all liars will have their part in the
lake of fire. (Prov 6:16-19, Rev 21:8, 27).

Many use the vision of Peter to say we can eat all things now, (Acts 10:9-28)  But, Peter
says it meant not to think any man is unclean.  Jesus said in Luke 10:8 “into whatsoever
city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.”, but you have
to remember He sent them only to the lost tribe of Israel.  Animals were divided into two
distinct classes among the people – clean and unclean (Lev 11:1-47).  The law
governing this distinction dealt with four footed animals as well as fish, birds, and
insects.  Only clean animals could be used for food.  Some people say that was under
the law, but, Noah had clean and unclean animals in the ark (Gen 7:2), so that means
there was clean and unclean before the law of Moses.

Cleans animals were those that chewed the cud and had divided hooves (Lev 11:3-8).
Pigs have divided hooves but they do not chew the cud, therefore, they were
ceremonially unclean and unfit for food.  Camels chew the cud, but they do not have
parted hooves.  So they could not be eaten.

The effort to connect these unclean foods with modern practices of hygiene breaks down
in details.  But some forbidden foods did serve as health precautions.  Pork is an
example.   Fish of some types could be eaten (Lev 11:9-12). However, certain mammals
of the sea are not clean. (Crabs, shrimps, oysters, lobsters, clams.  A total of 20 different
species of birds was rejected (Lev 11:13-19).  Some things were not made for food.

Certain land animals were made as clean-up animals (pigs, camels, rats)  to keep the
land clean and unplotted, however, man choose to eat these animals and the land is
over burdened with land fills trying to get rid of the waste.  The sea also has certain
things to clean-up the seas and waterways, but man has begun to eat them as food and
the waterways are now polluted.  Remember what God said in (Isa 65:1-4, 66:17).
Everything is good when it is used in the purpose it was made. Ex: a C.D player was
made to play C.D’s, a DVD looks like a C.D, but it will not play in a C.D. player.

Jesus said “I did not come to break the law, but to fulfill it.  We are to hate what God
hates .  We are to imitate Jesus.  So we have to know what Jesus did.  We are to watch
the fig tree (Israel).  Notice every `time the Israelites would continue to go against what
God said, He would withdraw His hand and they would be defeated. Ex: Ai (Josh 7:195,11-
12,19-26).

The Bible says these things that were written aforetime for our sakes (Rom 15:4; II Tim 3:
16-17).
