A New and Better Way
Many may say if God is the same yesterday, today and forever, why a new and
better way? When God made man, He made him in His image and likeness and
God gave them dominion (Genesis 1:26). But Adam gave that dominion to the devil
as he fell from grace, and the devil was then the god of this world. We are
supposed to be the god of this world (Psalms 82: 6) “I have said, you are gods, and
all of you are children of the Most High”. This does not mean we should be do like
the devil did and try to take over God, but we are to have dominion of the works of
God’s hand. God told the devil in Genesis 3:15 “and I will put enmity between you
and the woman, and between your seed and her seed, it shall bruise our head, and
you shall bruise His heel”.
God made the plan to get the dominion back to man. Adam because of his
disobedience caused all mankind to be brought into sin, because we were all in
Adam at that time (Romans 5:12) “wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; as so death passed upon all men, for that all have
sinned”? We have to thank God that He didn’t leave us in that condition. John 3:16-
18 shows us God’s love for us “for God so loved the world, that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but
that the world through Him might be saved. He that believes in Him is not
condemned, but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not
believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God”.
God set up a temporary solution to man’s sinful nature, by the sacrifices of the Old
Testament. The sacrifices were only a shadow of things to come. The people of
the Old Testament were looking for the Messiah to come. Jesus is the seed of the
woman and He defeated the devil through His death, burial and resurrection. He
tells us “I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Romans 5:17-19 says “for if by
one man’s offence death reigned by one much more they which receive abundance
of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by One, Jesus Christ.
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation,
even so by the righteousness of One, the free gift came upon all men to justification
of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the
obedience of One shall many be made righteous”. Verse 17 said that we shall reign
in life by Jesus Christ. I John 5:4-5 says “for whosoever is born of God overcomes
the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Who is he
that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God”? We
have to believe who Jesus was and that He finished what He was sent to do. Jesus
came that we would have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10b).
We have a new and better covenant through the veil (Hebrews 10:19-20) “having
therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus. By a
new and living way, which He has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say,
His flesh”. The Bible tells us to “submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil,
and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” (James 4:
7-8a). when you spend time with God, you will see and walk in the authority that you
have (Luke 10:19). David saw this and walked in it; he attacked the giant with a
sling shot because he knew that God was with him. David told the giant “you come
to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield, but I come to you in the
name of the Lord Yahweh of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have
defied” (I Samuel 17:45).
The book of Acts shows Peter and John as they ministered to the lame man; Peter
said “silver and gold, have I none, but such as I have give I you, in the name of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and
lifted him up; and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he
leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and
leaping, and praising God”(Acts 3:1-8). The early church believed that the power
was already given to them and stepped out in the name of Jesus. Jesus said in
John 16:15 “all things that the Father has are Mine, therefore said I, that He shall
take of Mine, and shall show it to you”. The disciples believed they had that power.
Everything that we do is to be done in the name of Jesus (Colossians 3:16-17) “let
the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one
another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts
to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord
Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him”.
Jesus tells us that all power has been given to Him, then He tells us to go therefore
and teach all nations, and that He is with us always (Matthew 28:18-20), this is the
great commission.
People are still asking God to do what they now have authority over, but we have a
new and better way. Remember Jesus gave us authority to tread on serpents and
scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt
you (Luke 10:19). Jesus gave us the keys to the kingdom (Matthew 16:19) “and I
will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever you shall bind
on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall
be loosed in heaven”. We have to give voice to God’s word (Psalms 68:11) “the
Lord gave the word, great was the company of those that published it”; and (Psalms
103:20) “bless the Lord Yahweh, you His angels that excel in strength, that do His
commandments, hearkening to the voice of His word”. It puts angels to work for you
(Hebrews 1:14) “are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for them who
shall be heirs of salvation?” Just like Jesus overcame the devil in the wilderness by
saying “it is written”, we have to know and be able to answer any problem with the
word of God. Stop talking about the problem, it will only magnify it. We have to
speak to it and tell it where to go (Mark 11:22-24), Jesus said “for verily I say to you,
that whosoever shall say to this mountain, be you removed, and be you cast into the
sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he
says shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he says” verse 23; whosoever
shall say, believe and doubt not; shall have what he says.
We were given a new nature at our rebirth (II Corinthians 5:17), we have a new spirit
(II Timothy 1:7). We have to put off the old man and put on the new man
(Ephesians 4:22-24), by renewing our minds to the word of God. We have to see
ourselves as the Bible says we are. Remember we are overcomers, and more than
conquerors. The Bible says “greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world”;
and “we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us”. How do you see
yourself? Psalms 23:7 says “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”. Ephesians 6:
10-18 cast light on how; be strong in the Lord, put on the whole armor of God, stand
on the word of God, take the shield of faith, take the helmet of salvation and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
The way has been made for us, we have to believe, meditate and act upon it.
